Project description

Accessible app for public transport (Olympklusion)

Olympklusion - inclusive bus & rail travel to the Special Olympics World Games 2023

In 2023, the Special Olympics World Games, the world's largest inclusive sporting event, took place in Berlin. From 17 to 25 June 2023, around 7,000 athletes competed at multiple locations in Berlin.

As part of the Berlin sustainability programme Inclusion '23, the transport association Berlin-Brandenburg worked on the project Olympklusion - with bus & train inclusively to the Special Olympics World Games. The project used the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023 as an occasion to develop a mobility app that was as easy to use for the largest possible group of passengers. Among other things, information in easy language, digital guidance systems, and a digital video navigation assistance system were integrated into the app.

HFC contributed its expertise in the fields of accessibility and UUX of digital systems to the project and accompanied the app development in this sense. In addition, we supported user research and conducted the evaluation of individual system aspects as well as the beta version of the app. In doing so, we used a wide variety of methods that were customised to the respective questions in the project. For example, right at the beginning of the project we conducted two online workshops with representatives of the user group, in which we collected their wishes and requirements for the app. These were followed by consensus procedures for weighting requirements and a heuristic evaluation. Finally, we conducted a field test to evaluate the new developments.
