Project description
Control room workstation for satellite and rover control
In a pioneering project, we designed new ergonomic workstation concepts for ESA satellite and rover control operations for the company CADwalk Global. This included a workstation design that would accommodate an increasing number of satellite missions managed by one control room operator. In addition to workstation ergonomics, we also looked into new possibilities of designing control rooms.
For this purpose, we carried out observations in two control rooms at ESA in Darmstadt and consulted with the operators. This was followed by a design phase, in which we developed two fundamentally different, novel workplace design concepts. Subsequently, we conducted a focus group with ESA employees. At the end of an intensive discussion phase, one of the concepts prevailed, which allows more flexibility and can now be implemented by CADwalk Global.
