Project description

Development of an AI-supported assistance system for machine operation (AdaptKI-Assist)

In the AdaptKI-Assist project (Adaptive Kl-based assistance system for the digital real-time generation of directives for machine operation), an assistance system is being developed that uses artificial intelligence methods to facilitate the setup and operation of machines in the production of packaging materials.

The production of packaging materials made of paper or foil in production chains with different degrees of automation currently requires highly experienced personnel. However, the shortage of skilled workers makes it necessary to quickly enable inexperienced employees to set up and operate the machines. For this purpose, we are developing an assistance system in the AdaptKI-Assist project together with our partners COVAC Elektro und Automation, Heinrich Ludwig Verpackungsmittel and the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS, that provides adaptive support during machine setup and operation. The assistance system is trained with the help of the latest machine learning methods in order to provide information and recommendations based on the production parameters, but also on the knowledge of experienced employees. Our task in the project is to collect implicit and explicit knowledge as well as user needs, to design the XR user interface and to evaluate the system.

AdaptKI-Assist is funded by the BMBF as part of the call "Research, development and use of artificial intelligence methods in SMEs", funding code 01IS22049C.
